About
I have always been fascinated by what happens beneath the surface.
Long before someone says they’re overwhelmed, they have often been carrying more than anyone realizes.
Long before a team finds itself in conflict, patterns have already begun taking shape.
Long before a child can explain what they’re feeling, they’re often communicating it in countless other ways.
I’ve spent my career paying attention to those moments.
Not because people are puzzles to solve.
Because every person, every relationship, and every community carries a story worth understanding.
The questions behind the work
My work has taken me into therapy rooms, classrooms, hospitals, leadership teams, churches, and organizations. Across these different settings, I find myself returning to many of the same questions:
- What helps people heal?
- What helps communities flourish?
- What allows leaders to carry responsibility without losing themselves?
- How do we create places where people feel seen without being simplified?
- What becomes possible when a group can finally name what is happening beneath the surface?
Writing gives me space to slow down.
A snowstorm becomes a lesson about leadership.
A child at play reveals something about healing.
A difficult conversation reveals something no one had yet found words for.
Grief arrives quietly and rearranges a room.
I don’t write because I have every answer.
I write because paying careful attention has changed how I understand people.
Perhaps it might help someone else see differently, too.
A perspective grounded in practice.
For more than sixteen years I’ve worked across community mental health, inpatient care, college counseling, graduate teaching, leadership, and private practice.
Psychology has given me a language for understanding people.
Writing gives me a way to continue those conversations beyond the therapy room or classroom.

Speaking, teaching, and consulting
Alongside my writing and clinical background, I teach, speak, and work with churches, leadership teams, and organizations navigating conflict, transition, trauma, culture, and the relational challenges that emerge whenever people share responsibility.
My role is not to arrive with a simplistic answer.
It is to help people slow down, see more clearly, find language for what is happening, and move toward healthier ways of leading and living together.
Outside of work…
I’m married to Brandon, and together we’re raising three wonderful children.
Much of what I write begins exactly where life happens—family dinners, long drives, quiet mornings, conversations with students, and the countless ordinary moments that quietly shape us.
